Crazy kids on behavioural meds...
I love kids on behavourial meds. They really crack me up most of the time. This past week we had a severely ADHD kid in who just broke our hearts. Michael was his name and he was this tiny blonde haired, big blue eyes scrap of a boy. He had this nasty habit of wandering away from his cabin and showing up at my nurses station because I had green and pink play-doh that he loved. One night I was sitting outside with our new water front director and Mike showed up. I asked him why he wasn't with his cabin to which he replied he was bored and wanted to play play-doh with me. I thought it odd he would be bored since that night our program director Errin had been 'kidnapped' for our evenings game. Errin is one of Michael's favourites so he had been really concered she was gone. I gently reminded him of what had happened. ' oh ' he said as the realization hit him, then he smashed his tiny fist into his other hand, ' We're going to make those guys pay!' and off he ran.
Later Errin called me to tell me she had talked to Michael after the game. She had a discussion with him the day before about not hitting people and was following up with him. " Micheal' she asked, " Did you hit anyone today?" " yes" he replied kicking at the dirt. " What did I tell you to do if you're upset with some one ?" " well, you said not to hit people like this' then he smacked the kid infront of him " and you said to talk to them and if that doesn't work I should tell my cabin leader" He then paused and looked up at Errin ' I'm really glad you're back' then he walked away.
Well the story isn't as cute in print but it's one of those little weiners that makes an impression on you.
So yeah things are good at camp and Chris is still smitten. And we have candice's rabbit Sam wandering around camp now. He let's me pet him

i'm excited to catch up & hear even more behavorial med- kids stories!
Good old behavourial med kiddies. My favourite are the kids who are on 'vacation' from their meds while at camp. Back when I was a cabin leader, I had a camper like that who really enjoyed the taste of other boys' flesh. He was sent home.
