sudbury? sooo ugly

We have moved to Sudbury for Cameron's new job as an aspiring geologist. He some sort of geotech type guy at the moment. He lugs about core samples and cuts them. Weeee fun.
Crappy thing is that we now live in Sudbury.
Officially (in my eyes) the most ugly city in Ontario. Yes, uglier then Hamilton.
The house we live in? Well currently we have a tiny room we inhabit at his cousins place. The downstairs was supposed to be finished for us to move into. A small basement apartment...that currently has unfinished walls, no sink, no cupboard and a couple of bar lightbulbs. Oh and no floor.
Don't think its going to be complete anytime soon. Cam and I have been working on the bedroom portion. The goal was to have it done by this weekend but I have high doubts as to that actually happening. The problem is mudding the drywall seams. The whole house is not square and the room is uneven. I'm disheartened to say the least.
I cried when I got up here. Not to encouraging for Cameron. Poor guy has been working his butt off to get us back on our feet again after Huntsville didn't work out. After living with my parents for the last six weeks I had thought things would be fine now that we had our own apartment again in Sudbury. As you can see that hasn't happened.
I should've been suspicious when family friends of mine told me that ' sudbury isn't that bad' before I got up here. Now I can see why.
From our front window you can see north america's largest smoke stack, which is right next to the big nickle. I can see the snowplow depot and factories. I can also see the houses crammed at odd angles with no front lawns. Most of the exteriors aren't finished or are in serious need of repair. There are next to no trees. City planning is a joke. Since it wasn't meant to be a permanent place (being a mining town) the roads are at odd angles with strange one ways and three road interections with four ways to turn. (true story) Zoning is non existent as well. You can have housing next to a factory and it's not odd at all. Also there are odd rock outcrops that people have built into or around since it's cheaper then blasting. There isn't a downtown core worth mentioning and the malls? Well the one I went to seemed to be masquerading as an office building.
I suppose to some people it wouldn't matter but being artistic and heavily into my surroundings it's a huge shock to the system. If there ever was a symbol to how humanity in its quest to rape the earth of any natural resources Sudbury is it. A warning as to how ugly humanity can be.
I have to keep reminding myself this is temporary and it really isn't so bad. But it's hard, I cry to much for a normal person and I hate the fact that I'm seven hours away from home.
I miss Huntsville terribly. I miss our apartment with the view of the lake. I miss being able to walk downtown to the fun shops and visiting Jen at Algonquin Outfitters. I miss trees.
So yes, This is the main reason I haven't blogged in over a month. It's been hard and no one likes a whiner. But this sudbury mess is just a little overwhelming.

Hi Dee, remember us? Adam and Jaime here. We saw your blog on Molliah's site and after reading your posting we decided two things...
1)you are a great writer
2)you need a pick me up
So what comes to mind when I think of your situation is Paul. He found himself in some seriously ugly places (like prison) but what got him through was finding those people that needed to hear about Jesus. If you ask the Lord to show you who needs him or his healing, he will show you. Once you start asking him what reason YOU are there for and doing His ministry by praying for people it will get better...let's just say I have done it in those hard times the Lord always gives a contentment and an uspeakable joy!
We are praying for you!

Oh Dee! I'm so sorry! I hope you can find something that's pleasant about the place--a favorite shop or coffee shop. Anything I can do to help let me know! Love and miss you Dee!

Hey Dee been a long time. Been catching up on what everyone is up too. I see your in my home town, too bad you don't like it much, then again after the Muskokas it isn't much. Well if you want some contacts I know a ton of people in town, plus my parents are still there. Hope Sudbury grows on you. Peace.
