Dignity

Facing the death of a loved one is never easy. It isn't a pretty thing that makes anyone comfortable. It is also hard to keep oneself from projecting your own feelings of how you would deal with death onto that loved one.
I found myself in a discussion the other day concerning wether or not there was any dignity in dying. I said that people can choose to die well. How you prepare yourself and ask your loved ones to help you. But the reaction I got was strong. Asking how can anyone die well? It is an ugly, disgusting, demeaning process that leaves you totally vunerable.
And it does. It is an arduous process.
But I believe that death is alot like birth. There isn't any dignity in birth either? It is worth it though. To get to the other side and expereince everything there is. You come into this world through pain, coming in totally vunerable, crying from the shock of the change.
It is almost like our bodies go through their own labour before our spirit can move to the next phase of our journey. How we choose to conduct our passage is our choice. Yes it will be uncomfortable for not only us but also for those around us.
But it is worth it. Terribly worth the sacrifice to get to the freedom on the other side.

This is a lot deeper than me going on about Christmas movies. Guess we know who the intellectual one of the group is. We're still a group right? Buds?
