Behind the book...
I'm the person who reads a book in public. Or at least looks like she's reading it. In truth she's people watching. An addictive habit she has had since childhood.
I'm the one who is quiet in a new group taking in her surroundings and how the people interact with the enviroment and each other. There is a lot to be experienced by watching. But there is even more to be learned when I do get around to participating.
I've really noticed as of late that people are really about being validated. Me amongst them as well. Constantly seeking approval wether it be our peers, parents, co-workers, and our made up gods. We get so hurt when we feel like someone is saying we're worthless.
I was reading a book about how we react when we're told in sublte ways we suck. Like when someone cuts in line. That person seems to be saying that they're more important then you. When in truth everyone is created equal. No matter what society has erected as standards about who wins and who loses the game of life. The author directed his readers towards the fact that it seems to be the human condition and that we're are incomplete. He later goes on to discuss how this missing piece won't be in place until we die and are reunited with an important relationship that has been missing since ancient times. You fill in the blanks.
I suppose to a certain extent this is why I like bittersweet stories. That life isn't perfect and no matter what we do no one person or thing will make us complete forever. However there is this distant hope that glimmers faintly that we reach out for. It's there. And it will happen...
One day.
